The City of Eagle Pass has joined Maverick County in suing 24 manufacturers and distributors of opioids for the damages that certain prescribed medications have caused, and continue causing, millions of people across the nation.

October 1 marks the beginning of the new fiscal year for all government agencies in Maverick County, and with it begins the collection of property taxes for Maverick County, City of Eagle Pass, Eagle Pass Independent School District, and the Maverick County Hospital District. 

The county government has set their tax rate at $0.52  per every $100 valuation, the city is taxing at $0.54 per every $100 valuation, the EPISD is taxing at $1.18 per every $100 valuation, and the hospital district has increased to $0.12 per every $100 valuation. 

In total the combined tax that a property owner will pay is $2.40 per ever $100 valuation or $2,360 on a $100,000 home. A homeowner outside the city limits however does not have to pay the city taxes, so their tax base would be at approximately $1,820 on a $100,000 home.  

Taxpayers have until January to pay without surcharges. During the month of February a surcharge of 7 percent is applied.

El 1 de octubre se fija como el comienzo del nuevo año fiscal para todas las agencias del gobierno en el condado de Maverick y  comienza la colección de los impuestos de del condado de Maverick, la ciudad de Eagle Pass, el Distrito Escolar Independiente de Eagle Pass y el Distrito del Hospital del Condado de Maverick.

El gobierno del condado ha fijado su tasa de impuesto en $ 0.52 por cada valuación de $ 100, la ciudad está fija  en $ 0.54 centavos por cada valoración de $ 100, el EPISD está colectando el $ 1.18 por cada valoración de $ 100 y el distrito de hospital ha aumentado a $ 0.12 por cada Valoración de $ 100.

En total, el impuesto combinado que un dueño de casa / propiedad pagará es un valor combinado de $ 2.40 por valuación de $ 100 o $ 2,360 en una casa de $ 100,000. Un dueño de casa fuera de los límites de la ciudad sin embargo no tiene que pagar los impuestos de la ciudad por lo que su base imponible sería en aproximadamente $ 1,820 en una casa de $ 100,000.

Los contribuyentes tienen hasta enero para pagar sin recargos. Durante el mes de febrero se aplica un recargo del 7%.

The Eagle Pass City Council approved the 2017-2018 Fiscal Year budget set at  $24,247,302 during their meeting held on Tuesday, September 19. 

The Eagle Pass Police Department has announced that they are in the process of hiring 5 new patrol officers to add to the police force in order to better serve the community.

The Eagle Pass City Council held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 5, in which they discussed and took action to approve the adoption of the 2017-2018 fiscal year budget and established procedures for formal approval by September 19, 2017.
